SATURDAY: Volunteers to sweep the streets of Hillcrest

SAN DIEGO -- If you see a group of neighbors clad in orange T-shirts this morning, they are most likely volunteers with the Hillcrest Clean Team.

The group will be out sweeping the streets of the neighborhood this morning starting at 9 am, making up for last weekend's rained-out clean-up.

Since November 2005, community members and other volunteers have come together to clean to the sidewalks and gutters of Hillcrest on a regular basis.

The group is now a project of the Hillcrest Town Council's Neighborhood Improvement Committee.

Volunteers at the clean-up receive a brief orientation and then are placed in groups to maximize the reach throughout the neighborhood. All volunteers receive an orange Hillcrest Clean Team t-shirt.

According to HillQuest.com, this volunteer effort is particularly important because the residential streets in Hillcrest are not swept by the city as they are in other San Diego communities.

Those who wish to join in this morning's clean-up should check-in at 9 am on Park Boulevard just south of University Avenue. Volunteers will work until noon.
