SAN DIEGO – Martinis Above Fourth will soon be full of holiday cheer in the form of handmade holiday wreaths that will adorn its wall.
The restaurant and bar’s popular Charity Wreath Auction will be held for the eighth time on Monday, Dec. 12.
In its first seven years, the event raised over $127,000 for the Queen Eddie Conlon Youth Fund, which provides assistance to San Diego youth ages 13-18 for education-related expenses, books, supplies, and clothing. The fund is in honor of LGBT community leader, Army veteran, columnist and entertainer Eddie Conlon, who was said to particularly value the younger members of the LGBT community and believed in their capacity to bring about change.
The wreath auction, which was created by the former owners of Martinis Above Fourth, has been successful in raising community support for the fund by giving participants the opportunity to create a holiday wreath and bringing the community together for a fun evening of entertainment and fundraising.
Donated wreaths are created by individuals, companies and community organizations, and range from classy to campy.
Last year’s wreaths included creations such as Todd Eastman’s “Reindeer Balls,” “Autumnal Holiday” by Arthur Casey and Chuck Ramsey, and “Naughty XXXmas Treat” by F Street.
Martinis Above Fourth staff member Ian Johnson says that wreath donations are already starting to trickle in and he encourages community members and groups to create and contribute wreaths through Dec. 9.
A “Preview Party” will be held at Martinis Above Fourth on Saturday, Dec. 10, for customers to view the wreaths that will be up for bidding in advance.
Lady Ajax will serve as the auctioneer at the Dec. 12 Wreath Auction and will be accompanied by the “Wreath Boys” will “model” the submissions. A silent auction will also take place.
Cover charge for the Wreath Auction will be a $10 charity donation at the door.
