SAN DIEGO -- A petition has been created on Change.org to support Allan Spyere's case to stay in the United States. He faces an immigration hearing on Friday, Feb. 17.
The petition was created by a friend of Spyere's boyfriend, Christopher Pfeil, who said that "Allan desperately needs your urgent help to keep him from being deported to Brazil."
Spyere was arrested in the early morning hours on Sunday, Feb. 5, after being pulled over for a traffic violation. A San Diego Police Department officer detained him on suspicion of driving under the influence and found that Spyere's student visa had expired.
Following the news of Spyere's imprisonment, friends put together a video and letter writing campaign in support of his release. Spyere is actively involved in the San Diego LGBT community, and most recently served as emperor of the Imperial Court de San Diego.
Pfeil's friend who created the petition said that signatures on the petition need to be received by the evening of Thursday, Feb. 16, so that it can be presented to the judge at Friday morning's hearing.
