Harvest Howl to benefit LGBT youth housing

SAN DIEGO -- Tickets are available for the seventh annual Harvest Howl, a fundraiser for The San Diego LGBT Community Center's Youth Housing Project (YHP), taking place Thursday, Oct. 25.

The event, which will place at Top of the Park, is organized each year by MARYAH - Metro Area Real Estate Professionals for Young Adult Housing.

The event will include food from a over a dozen local restaurants, a hosted bar during the first hour, live entertainment, a silent auction and prizes.

The YHP, one of the first projects of its kind in the nation, is an innovative and cutting-edge program designed to help youth who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. The program provides 23 units of affordable, supportive housing for youth ages 18-24, with a special focus on LGBTQ youth.

These high-risk youth have found themselves in need of housing for various reasons: some are making the transition out of foster care and/or group homes, others have left home voluntarily because of a myriad of family issues, while others have been kicked out of their homes as a result of their sexual orientation.

MARYAH is a group of real estate professionals whose goal is to provide additional, supportive funding for the Youth Housing Project. Current MARYAH board members are Lori Northcutt, Ivan Solis Jr., Nelson White, Richard Woods, Garold Wampler, Ashley Lunn, Mark Kunce, James Crandall, Christopher Hutchinson, Todd Armstrong, David Muscat, Ken Tablang, Mike Paganelli, Jim Hush and Keith Pererson.

MARYAH has set out to raise $30,000 this year to sponsor housing units for two young adults, and proceeds from the Harvest Howl will assist in meeting that goal.

Tickets are $40 and can be purchased online.

Top of the Park is located at 525 Spruce St. atop the Park Manor Suites Hotel.
