Mama's Day 2013 food tasting gala set for May 10

SAN DIEGO – Save the date for Mama’s Day 2013, an extraordinary evening with many of San Diego’s best and brightest culinary professionals.

Mama’s Day 2013 will be on Friday, May 10, from 6:30 to 9:30 pm at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine, 3777 La Jolla Village Drive. The fundraising event, held the Friday evening before Mother’s Day, supports Mama’s Kitchen’s belief that every person is entitled to the basic necessity in life – nutritious food.

Heather K. Bowden of Bowden Properties will return for a second year as event chairperson, and Sam “The Cooking Guy” Zien returns for the fifth consecutive year as the event’s Culinary Host.
Proceeds from Mama’s Day, now in its 22nd year, allow Mama’s Kitchen to cook and deliver hot, nutrition-specific meals free of charge to men, women and children affected by AIDS or cancer throughout San Diego County.

Guests enjoy music, food and fun throughout the evening while dining on distinctive dishes graciously prepared and served by executive chefs from the region’s top restaurants. Guests are also encouraged to bid on an extensive silent auction and enter an opportunity drawing for a Wine Vault, with a chance to win more than $1,000 worth of premium wines.

Pre-sale tickets are available for $125 per person, and $150 at the door. Premium VIP tickets are available for $250 each, which includes early access at 5:30 pm to an exclusive VIP pre-party featuring a food and cocktail presentation by Sam the Cooking Guy before the doors open to general admission attendees at 6:30 pm. VIPs also enjoy a hosted poolside bar throughout the evening.

About Mama’s Kitchen

Mama’s Kitchen was founded in 1990 when volunteers from the AIDS Assistance Fund realized a reliable home meal delivery service was needed to ensure their clients received nutritious, life-sustaining food. In 2004, Mama’s Pantry was opened to provide individuals with HIV/AIDS who are able to prepare meals the opportunity to supplement their nutritional needs. In 2012, Mama’s Pantry serviced 774 individuals. Mama’s Kitchen has served more six million meals since it was founded and has never turned away a client who qualified for services. Our commitment to our clients remains unchanged. Today, the organization has expanded its service to San Diegans affected by either AIDS or cancer.
