TONIGHT: Local screening and discussion of "Bully"

SAN DIEGO -- Canvass for a Cause (CFAC) and the SAME Alliance will present a free screening of the critically acclaimed film "Bully" today at 6 pm.

The film, which will be shown at Canvass for a Cause's Hillcrest headquarters, will be followed by a panel discussion.

"Bully" is described as a "wrenching, potentially transformative look at an epidemic of adolescent cruelty and adult paralysis in the nation's public schools."

CFAC says that it is currently helping fight to pass the Student Non-Discrimination Act, which will be the first federal bill to focus on stopping harassment of gay students and students with gay family and friends. CFAC and SAME say they are actively working to make queer safe spaces and support anti-bullying efforts.

"Our goal in screening this film is to raise awareness about this issue and discuss solutions to make our schools safe for all students, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity," CFAC organizers wrote in a release.

The post-film discussion will include a panel featuring Brandon Primus - representing Congresswomen Susan Davis' office - who will discuss the importance of the Student Non-Discrimination Act; and a youth named Sherlynn, who is president of Carlsbad High School's Gay-Straight Alliance club.

CFAC's headquarters is located at 3705 10th Ave. Ste. 3. More information is HERE.
