DJ Kurty does her best to keep the music playing even through difficult times.
The one thing that people in the San Diego LGBT community can count on is that when times get tough we are there for each other, whether it’s through lending a hand, kind words or even financial support.
One of our local personalities, DJ Kurty could use your help in one of the above categories.
Two years ago her brother Robert moved to America’s Finest City to be closer to his sister. Within two weeks, Robert developed a chronic cough which turned out to be more than just a cold, it was stage four lung cancer.
DJ Kurty (Linda Kurtyka) saw her brother through the aggressive chemo and recovery times, finding them both a home and continuing to make sure her brother was comfortable.
As if things couldn’t get any worse, this week it was discovered that Robert’s cancer is spreading and his doctors speculate he only has a few more months to live.
DJ Kurty has been a Hillcrest personality and a part of the community for many years. She’s done shows for Pride and different LGBT events around San Diego.
But the financial burden can be tough, therefore friends Dee Warwick and Sara Sperling have set up a GoFundMe page on behalf of DJ Kurty so that the community can assist them, if they like, with living expenses and rising medical costs.
The generosity of the community will help DJ Kurty make the most of the remaining time she has with her brother.

UPDATE: In a recent update it was announced that Robert lost his battle with cancer and passed away on Friday evening; August 26. SDGLN sends its condolences to DJ Kurty and her friends and family.
