The Imperial Court de San Diego pledges to keep the room stocked.
It's more than just a blue door in the halls of Florence Elementary, inside it is stocked with much-needed supplies for kids who may need a little help being successful in school and at home.
Thanks to the efforts of The Imperial Court de San Diego, "Emperor Omar's Closet" is a doorway to everything a young scholar needs. It offers free school supplies, clothes, canned food, hygiene supplies, shoes, etc. for the children and their families.
"Emperor Omar's Closet" is in honor of Hillcrest businessman Omar Lowry who in 1973 was elected the first Emperor of The Imperial Court de San Diego. Over the years The Court has helped Florence with monetary assistance by conducting donation drives and other fundraising projects.
City Commissioner Nicole Murray-Ramirez created the special supply closet and $2,000 was donated to launch the project with a commitment by The Imperial Court de San Diego to keep the shelves stocked at all times.
Florence Elementary School principal Alexis Conety, businessman Omar Lowry, Empress XVI Barbie Z, Michael Lochner, and President of the Imperial Court Murray-Ramirez attended the recent dedication of the small but important room.
