San Diego Pride announced today the return of the annual Youth Leadership Academy (YLA), being hosted at the San Diego History Center. YLA is a fun, inclusive, and intense day that includes historical context, LGBTQ resource education, team-building activities, and panel discussions that inform and motivate participants to be successful in all that they do.

The young adults who attend YLA will come away with practical skills and a committed passion to become agents of change within their own schools and communities.

“The pioneers of our movement made incredible strides towards equality, and it is imperative that we honor that legacy in a way that lifts up the next generation of LGBTQ activists to continue those efforts,” said Fernando Z. López, Executive Director of San Diego Pride.

Applications for the academy, which are open to junior high and high school aged youth, are now being accepted.

“I learned how to be a leader in my community from listening to the panelists of elected officials, business people, and students who are out in our community talking about their stories,” Jay Siebe said last year. “When I first did the Youth Leadership Academy, I met so many new friends that I still have to this day.”

The academy will take place on Saturday, November 10, 2018, from 8:30 am - 5:15 pm.

Pride is accepting applications until Sunday, October 28, 2018.

Students throughout Southern California are encouraged to apply. Limited complimentary shuttles are available from North County and Imperial County.
