This year marks the 20-year anniversary of Matthew Shepard's death, and his parents, Judy and Dennis, will be in San Diego speaking about their work and the purpose of the Shepard Foundation.

They will be at St Paul's Episcopal Cathedral on Sunday, December 16 at 9 am. The public is invited to join them at the Forum Workshop in the Great Hall for a morning of reflection and hope.

The Shepards will also talk about their ongoing work to honor Matthew's memory.

The Matthew Shepard Foundation’s longstanding mission is to erase hate by replacing it with understanding, compassion and acceptance:

"Through local, regional and national outreach, we empower individuals to find their voice to create change and challenge communities to identify and address hate that lives within their schools, neighborhoods and homes. Our work is an extension of Matt’s passion to foster a more caring and just world. We share his story and embody his vigor for civil rights to change the hearts and minds of others to accept everyone as they are."

Judy and Dennis Shepard will also receive an award from the Nicky's, the annual LGBTQ awards event that honors outstanding LGBTQ community organizations and individuals in San Diego.

The Shepards will be at St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral 2728 6th Ave. in The Great Hall on December 16 at 9 am.
