News from Todd Gloria

The holidays are approaching quickly, stretching everyone’s time and attention. I hope you will make the time to join me at the events listed below and provide input on important issues impacting our neighborhoods, including transit, libraries and the City budget.

Two meetings this week will be focused on your input.

Town Hall: A New Hillcrest-Mission Hills Library When I visited the Friends of the Mission Hills Library this summer, folks expressed interest in obtaining more input and partnership with other community members and efforts continue to secure funding for a new branch library to serve Hillcrest and Mission Hills. A site on Washington Street was purchased several years ago, designs are in development, and some important funding has been secured. Your input and participation are now needed to move the project forward and make it a reality. If you cannot attend, please contact my office with your ideas about the library.

Proposed Transit Cuts Since becoming a member of the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) Board of Directors, I have been critical of decisions to make up transit budget shortages by cutting service and raising fares. While investigating and pursuing additional funding streams for ongoing transit operations, I voted against the MTS budget earlier this year because of its reliance on service cuts. When routes are cut and service frequency reduced, the bus and trolley system become less useful for riders, further worsening the budget problems. MTS recently announced its intention to cut $7 million in transit service to overcome sales tax revenue shortfalls. To preserve the network of weekday serves and to impact as few riders as possible, MTS is proposing to substantially reduce serve on Sundays. A public hearing has been scheduled for the MTS Board Meeting on Thursday, December 10. To inform the public and gather input prior to that hearing, MTS will be hosting public outreach meetings. All information about the sessions is available at www.sdmts.com. Those closest to Council District Three are listed below.
