As San Diego Celebrates Pride Week, DeMaio Recognized for “100 Percent Voting Record on GLBT Equality Issues”
THIS IS A PRESS RELEASE FROM THE OFFICE OF CARL DEMAIO
SAN DIEGO – As San Diegans gather to celebrate LGBT Pride, Carl DeMaio scored the endorsement of long-time LGBT human rights advocate Nicole Murray-Ramirez – also known as the “Gay Mayor of Hillcrest.” Ramirez is a City Commissioner and served as Chairman of the City’s Human Relations Commission.
Writing in his weekly column in a gay publication, Commissioner Murray-Ramirez says:
“When on the City Council, Carl DeMaio had a 100 percent voting record when it came to GLBT equality issues. He will continue that record in Congress and will become a national leader for a new generation of Republicans.
“After watching Carl DeMaio stand up against ugly, nasty and negative attacks by radical right wing organizations during the primary, I know he will do so again in Congress.
I firmly believe Carl’s historic election will be most important to our community, his party and, yes, for our nation. That’s why I support Carl DeMaio for Congress.”
“Throughout this campaign, Scott Peters has engaged in a pattern of distortions and divisiveness when it comes to important social issues,” noted Susan Jester, a member of DeMaio’s LGBT Coalition and founder of AIDS Walk San Diego.
“I’m thrilled San Diegans are seeing through his distortions and divisiveness and are recognizing my efforts to take on my own party to make it more inclusive to LGBT Americans,” noted DeMaio. “It’s time to end the divisive debate on these issues in favor of full equality, respect, and inclusion for all our diverse communities,” DeMaio said.
