Show founder Nicole Murray Ramirez to return for one night special engagement
(SAN DIEGO) On Wednesday December 9th the longest-running female impersonation show on the west coast- San Diego’s own Dreamgirls Revue, will be celebrating its third anniversary at Urban Mo’s Bar and Grill. The night will feature a pre-show mixer with the girls, light hors d’oeurves, a champagne toast and of course- all of your favorite Dreamgirls.
Emceeing that night is Dreamgirls founder and infamous Hillcrest queen Nicole Murray Ramirez.
“Having traveled all over I realized the best foundation for a drag show involved comedy and look-alikes”, commented Murray Ramirez. “20 years ago I formed a show with the premise that each of the cast members had to look like someone: Cher, Bette Midler, etc., and each performer was instructed to study tapes of the stars. I didn’t just want them to study what they looked like, but how they entertain.”
Since that time, Dreamgirls has grown into what many have compared to a full-fledged, professional Las Vegas show- without the mandated dinner and three drink minimum.
“People don’t necessarily realize what they’re getting for that $5 cover,” adds Murray Ramirez. “I’ve seen shows all over the country and Chad Michaels has really taken this to bigger heights than other performers have dared to dream of. Throughout the years these performers have been booked in Palm Springs, Orange County, and countless other venues. This type of production is truly an art form, and Dreamgirls has captured that.”
Murray Ramirez further notes she may be a bit rusty with her performance- she hasn’t done a number in over 15 years.
“Chad caught me at a crazy moment so I agreed to do it. But let’s be honest, I have a mirror in my house, I’m well aware I can’t entertain. I’m coming to emcee and do one number- if you’re looking for talent you’re not going to see any from me,” laughed Murray Ramirez. “Maybe audience members can use that time to take a smoke break.”
Although the show has become nationally renowned, Murray Ramirez feels credit should go where credit is due, and that’s to Chad Michaels. “All credit has to go to Chad and the cast. They’re all 100% on target for their impersonations and their comedy. No one has ever done it better, and I don’t think anyone else ever will.”
The Dreamgirls 3rd year Urban Mo's anniversary will take place at Urban Mo’s Bar and Grill, 301 University Avenue, 92103. The pre-show mixer will begin at 7 p.m. and the show will start at 8 p.m. This is a 21+ event and there is a $5 cover to attend. After the performance DJ Lauren will spin top 40 until close.
