Jim Winsor's Out & About: The gay party scene heads out to sea

If you notice the absence of a lot of familiar faces in the clubs the week after next, there's a reason for that: It is cruise time!

Up to 3,200 passengers will set sail aboard the Mariner of the Seas, for an Atlantis Mexican Cruisefrom Oct. 17 to24.

Like White Party Palm Springs and Los Angeles Pride, the annual cruise has always been a big draw for the local party boy crowd here, and this year is no exception. I know scores of guys from San Diego who are going, including Bobby Vannoy, Ken Suazo, Eric Fagar, Robert Wall, Anthony Viruet, Robert Wiggins, Eric Alvillar, Allan McGavin, Christian Taylor and many many others.

Although an Atlantis cruise offers many forms of activities and entertainment, a significant attraction for many is the nightlife and the parties ... seven days and nights of nonstop parties.

As on past cruises, a team of top notch DJs (this year Abel, Manny Lehman, Phil B, and Wayne G) have been booked to spin ten on board theme parties, including past favorites such as the "Dog Tag" T-Dance, the Mardi Gras Party, the Classic Disco T-Dance, and the signature Atlantis White Party.

New for this year will be the "Through the Looking Glass" Party, with an Alice in Wonderland theme.

Assuming I'm not having too much fun (and I can get a decent internet connection ... sometimes that's tricky at sea) I'll try to file a nautical version of my column about midweek, and fill you all in on the various shipboard shenanigans to date. Or even better, if this is something you're interested in ... feel free to join us!

Check to see if there are any cabins available.

Fruit Fly Party at Bacchus House this Saturday

But there are still some parties here on dry land that I need to attend before I weigh anchor. This Saturday, for example, SDPIX and Flawles present the Fruit Fly Party at Bacchus House. This is a great chance for all us gay guys to celebrate a night on the town with our favorite females (which for me would have to be the incredible Kristin Doving).

Babette's Bingo Lunch at Martinis Above Fourth

Babette Schwartz took the month of September off, but she's ready and roarin' to go this Sunday at 11am for another fabulous Babette's Bingo Lunch at Martinis Above Fourth. Celebrity bartender Michael Brierly's will be celebrating his birthday that day as well, making it a Babette's Brierly Birthday Bingo!

The DMV lot now available nights and weekends in Hillcrest

Good news for those of you who drive in the to enjoy the nightlife here in Hillcrest ... you can now legally park in the DMV parking lot (between Cleveland and Normal Sts.) nights and weekends, for only $1 an hour.

This translates to 187 new parking spaces for the community! Kudos go to State Senator Christine Kehoe and City Councilmember Todd Gloria, who worked diligently together for months to make this happen.

And for a complete record of all the recent fun and madness (including the once-again successful Gay Days Anaheim weekend), tune into SDPIX for thirteen new photo albums. Enjoy!
