Theater Review: “West Side Story”

“West Side Story” plays through August 31, 2019 at Moonlight Amphitheatre.

It may seem strange to see a bunch of hoodlums – killers, even – break out in dance at the top of Leonard Bernstein’s iconic musical “West Side Story” – and it’s not hip-hop or break dancing. But by now, most of us are used to it.

Theater Review: “A Weekend with Pablo Picasso”

“A Weekend with Pablo Picasso” plays through August 25, 2019 at New Village Arts, 2787 State Street, Carlsbad.

Theater Review: “An Experiment with an Air Pump”

“An Experiment with an Air Pump” plays through August 25, 2019 at La Jolla Playhouse’s Theodore and Adele Shank Theatre, 2910 La Jolla Village Drive (on the UCSD campus).

This time, it’s British playwright Shelagh Stephenson’s 1997 “An Experiment with an Air Pump,” a time-jumping consideration of the ethics of science in general and of medical research and genetic testing in particular.

Toss in clever dialogue and a bit of a mystery, and you’ve got a winner.
