Jim Winsor's Out & About: Get ready for an action-packed Memorial Day weekend

Memorial Day weekend is here! And since this is a three-day holiday, clubs and promoters here are pulling out all the stops, including one very exciting new event on Sunday night.

The Action Summer Party at Boudoir

Yes, folks, this is the big event everyone has been talking about: The Action Summer Party at Boudoir.

For those of you who don't know, Boudoir is the latest creation of downtown San Diego nightlife mogul Mike Viscuso (owner of On Broadway, Deco and Belo). It's an elaborately Burlesque-decorated three-level megaclub featuring dazzling dance floors, luxuriant VIP booths and lounges, and "special entertainment" attractions, such as peek-a-boo holes, a human aquarium and a mechanized bondage wheel. In other words, a very unique club experience indeed!

This'll be our first gay takeover of the place, and partymeisters Dylan Jones and Marcel Hetu seem to have all the bases covered: There'll be music by DJ/producer Alexander, a live performance by Billboard dance artist Zarya (performing her hits "Baby Likes to Bang" and "VIP"), go go boys galore, and after-hours until 4 am.

Tickets are $25 pre-sale, and can be purchased online, or at Mankind, or from one of many official Action Party party hosts (including Luis Perez, Derek Soderholm, Shaun Flak, Russ Burns, Daisy Torres, Marcelo Ruiz, Vince Dwyer, Alex Maravilla, Shane Teusch, Benny Cartwright, Joey Bamboo, Gracie Laciste, Russ Edra, Nathan Callahan, Tony Serafini, Nick Warren, Tom Lombardo, Jimmy Marley and Chase Cullen). And for you procrastinators, tickets can also be had for $35 at the door.

Hillcrest Prom at Eden

Another mega-event this week is the first-ever Hillcrest Prom at Eden on Thursday night. The theme is "Midnight in the Garden," and to reflect this, the patio and nightclub will be revamped into a romantic combination of "A Mid-Summer Night's Dream" and "Alice in Wonderland" … a perfect backdrop for showing off those tuxes and gowns.

Highlights of the night will be a special performance by Ultra Nate, and of course, the eagerly awaited announcement of the first-ever Hillcrest Prom King and Queen.

Couple tickets are $30, single tickets $20, and can be purchased online here.

Active Duty at Rich's

On Saturday get ready for a special Memorial Weekend edition of the always popular Active Duty military party at Rich's. DJ Nikno will be your commander, gathering an army of hot shirtless boys in army gear and camo paint on the dance floor.

Doors open at 2200, and the first 500 to report for duty will get a free Active Duty dog tag to accessorize with.

Those with a valid Military ID get in free before 2300, and half-off thereafter. Pix VIP Members get half-off before 2300, and front of the line privileges all night long.

T Dance on the Bay

An annual MDW favorite returns! Michael Mack's T Dance on the Bay sets sail at 1 pm for a three-hour harbor excursion. Boarding begins at noon, and the weather should be perfect for dancing on the top deck to local favorite DJ Luis Perez. Tickets are $45 presale, and can be purchased online and Obelisk bookstore in Hillcrest.

Mo's renovation and events

The remodel project at Mo's I told you about a few weeks ago is practically complete! Be sure to stop be this weekend and check out all the new handiwork, as well as their lineup of events, such as the Memorial Weekend Deep End Party 13 on Sunday, and the Recovery Monday Party on Memorial Day.

Last week's events

Be sure to check out SDPIX for all the new albums from last week, including photos from the Fiesta Cantina Anniversary, Rich's, Jake's On 6th, The Loft, #1 Fifth, Numbers, Redwing, and the fabulous Reclaim Summer Party at the Wavehouse in Mission Beach last Saturday. Happy viewing!
