SAN DIEGO -- Tagged Thursdays, the popular weekly top 40/hip hop night created by the folks at Global Male Productions and the Pride Card a few months back ... has moved! No longer at the Brass Rail, the event is now being held every Thursday night at its new location, The Flame.
For those of you who have never been, Tagged Thursdays offers an enhanced clubbing experience for those into the hip hop, reggaeton and R&B scene by providing free cover and drink specials for those who check-in and "tag" their friends on social media applications from their phone, such as Facebook, Four Square and Twitter.
This week features music by a Top 40/hip hop journey by DJs Myxzlplix, Lil Chris and Will Z, along with hot black and Latin go go dancers, $2 shot specials and 2-for-1 well drinks for those who check in and tag.
The Atlantis Party at Rich's
This Saturday get ready for the 2nd ever Atlantis: The Club Under the Sea Party at Rich's. One of the more unique theme events on the party calendar, last year's party was a ton of fun. This year get ready for more of the same: undersea decor, go go merboys, and free body painting all night long! Plus music by DJ Nikno.
The fun begins at 10 pm, and there's half off cover before 11 pm if you show your San Diego Pix VIP sticker, or if you text SDPIX to 313131 and show the resulting welcome message upon arrival.
Nicky Awards at The Center
And we have a couple of big events this Sunday. The first is the 36th annual Nicky Awards at The Center from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. It's been called the "gay Academy Awards of San Diego," and indeed, the ceremony honors and recognizes outstanding achievement within our LGBT community.
Entertainers scheduled for the evening include "Glee" star JC Jones, circuit performer Flava and local Gaga impersonator Grace Towers.
Tickets are $50 (or $75 VIP), and proceeds will benefit the Imperial Court, as well as The Center and Lambda Archives.
FilmOut San Diego's Closing Party at Urbn Coal Fired Pizza
Also on Sunday: FilmOut San Diego's LGBT Film Festival is wrapping up an excellent two-week run with a closing party from 10 pm to midnight at Urbn Coal Fired Pizza in North Park. Like the opening party at Top of the Park last Friday, this is an excellent opportunity to throw back a couple of drinks with some of the featured films' cast and crew in attendance.
In fact, Urbn has been running food-and-drink special- for FilmOut patrons during the entire festival: $5 Rokk Vodka + Rokk Vodka Citrus; $6 Mules + John Daly's (Vodka Arnold Palmer's); and $5 meatballs appetizers. Just show your FilmOut ticket or lanyard pass to the server/bartender to claim these specials.
Last week's events
Check out SDPIX for all the events from last week you may have missed, including photos from the Voltage Underwear Party at Rich’s, the Toast to Hillcrest restaurant crawl, the Mama's Kitchen Wine Tasting fundraiser at Bourbon Street, the aforementioned FilmOut opening party at Top of the Park, the Barracks at Numbers, and the Summer Splash AIDS Walk fundraising party at Martinis Above Fourth. Happy viewing!
