As most of you know, I usually use this column to outline the big events during the coming week. Well, hold on to your hats folks, you're getting a double edition today, with two weeks worth of coming attractions. I'll have more to say on why this is so below. But for now ...
WET finals at Bourbon Street
First up, we have this month's WET finals at Bourbon Street tonight (Thursday), emceed by "the adorable Benny Cartwright." Only previous weekly winners are eligible to participate, and thus the pot has been sweetened considerably: $470 in cash and prizes for 1st place, $295 for second, and $272 for third.
The winners will be chosen by audience response. In addition, there's half-priced Smirnoff cocktails all night long, plus dancing and $1 shot specials after the show.
Don L's 41st birthday blowout at the Caliph
Master of song and music Don LeMaster will be performing this Saturday from 8:30 pm to 12:30 am at the Caliph, in honor of someone very special: Himself!
He's celebrating his 41st birthday that night and in addition to the fabulous entertainment (which includes Ria Carey, Andy Anderson, Nathan Fry, Shelly and Shauna, just to name a few), there'll be a free buffet from 9 pm to 11 pm and birthday cake.
Official viewing party for "RuPaul's Drag Race" at Urban Mo's
This coming Monday, Jan. 30, will be a BIG night at Urban Mo's, with the first official viewing party for Season 4 of "RuPaul's Drag Race" kicking off at 8 pm. The show will be broadcast commercial-free on the big screen TVs, with Absolut specials to keep you going throughout the night. It's the perfect place to gather and root for this year's home town favorite Chad Michaels of the Dreamgirls ... go Team Chad!
Bear Night at Numbers
Feb. 4 will be the first Saturday of the new month, which means it's time once again for BearNight at Numbers.
This will be a special Mardi Gras themed edition, with DJ Jon Williams spinning the best in high energy dance and house, plus guest DJ Will Z tearing it up in the Sideshow Bar.
Be sure to catch the drink specials ($3 Miller, Miller Lite, Coors or Coors Light, $6 Double Svedka or Seagram's flavored vodkas, plus Jagermeister and Barenjager shots) and come hungry for grilled-to-order food like: Carne Asada or Chicken Tacos (2 for $4), Chicken or Beef Quesadilla ($5), Bacon Wrapped Hot Dog ($3), 1/2 Pound Cheeseburger ($5) and Carne Asada or Chicken Burrito ($5). Cover is only $5 before 10 pm, and $7 after.
Super Bowl Sunday
Deja vu, it looks like we have another Patriots-Giants Super Bowl this coming Sunday, Feb. 5. Which means a bunch of bars will be hosting big Super Bowl parties, noteworthy among them being events at Flicks and The Range.
Atlantis Allure Caribbean cruise sets sail from Florida this Sunday
But it looks like I'll have to miss the Super Bowl parties this year ... starting Sunday, Jan. 29, until Sunday, Feb. 5, I'll be circumnavigating Cuba on the largest gay cruise in the world, the Atlantis Allure Caribbean cruise, aboard the largest cruise ship in the world, Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas.
The good folks at Atlantis have kindly invited me aboard to provide media coverage of this year's legendary mega vacation for SDGLN ... and so that is what I shall do. As with last October's Atlantis Mexican Cruise, I'll be traveling with a healthy contingent of San Diego boys, so look for some updates on our high-seas adventures here on SDGLN in coming days!
