Gay Days Anaheim recently announced April 13 as the date for its “Mini Gay Day."
Mini Gay Day is a smaller, less formal warm-up event to the big Gay Days Anaheim weekend at Disneyland later in the year (Oct. 4-6). A schedule of events should be posted HERE soon. And don’t forget to wear a red shirt!
It's probably a good time to reserve your Disney hotel rooms for the big weekend in October, as those sold-out weeks before the event last year. You can get deep discounts if you book now.
Active Duty After Hours at Rich’s
This Saturday night, SDPIX will present its quarterly Active Duty: The Military Party at Rich’s, this time with a twist: Instead of going to 0200 hours, it’ll be going until 0400 hours! Yep that’s right, an Active Duty after hours.
As at past Active Duty parties, military and camo attire is highly encouraged (see photos of past event HERE for examples of what to expect). The night will feature hot military go-go boys, free dog tags for the first 500 people through the door, music by DJ Nikno (back from New York for a visit, yay!), and free body painting to accessorize your fierce warrior look.
To top it off, it was just announced that legendary dance-music singer Debby Holiday will perform live during the event!
A valid military ID gets you in free before 11 pm, or $5 off cover afterwards. SDPIX VIP memberships will get $5 off cover and front-of-line privileges before 11 pm. If you don’t have a VIP membership, no worries … just text SDPIX to 313131 and show the welcome message to the cashier to receive $5 off cover before 11 pm.
Red Carpet Party at Flicks
If you’re looking for one of the hottest Academy Awards party in town this Sunday, then look no further than Flicks! The San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus will be hosting a Red Carpet Academy Awards viewing party at 4 pm, which will include food, drink, fun and cash prizes for predicting the most winners of the night via their Oscar ballot. All proceeds will benefit the SDGMC.
Going away party for Gabriel Joseph at Uptown Tavern
As most of you know, talented local singer/songwriter Gabriel Joseph will be local no more; he’ll be leaving this week to further pursue his music career in L.A.
But before he goes, he’ll be having a party, quite naturally! There will be a get together to see him off this Saturday night at Uptown Tavern at 9 pm. As Gabriel puts it: “Even though I will only be 2 hours away I'd love to see all of your drunk faces before I go!”
Last week’s events
While this year’s Hillcrest Mardi Gras street fair may have been a flop (in case you haven’t already seen or heard, it was a poorly attended fiasco hampered by, among other things, a grassroots boycott launched by several community members over the completely inappropriate presence of a for-profit party promoter in this previously non-profit event), fortunately other bars and clubs managed to pick up the slack. Check out SDPIX for all the new albums from last week around town, including Mardi Gras photos from #1 Fifth Avenue, the Brass Rail, and Rich’s, plus Valentine’s related pictures from Lips, Bourbon Street and 1202. Happy viewing!
