The annual Hillcrest CityFest street festival is this Sunday! Considered by many to be a “lite” version of San Diego Pride, it's another opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate on a warm and pleasant Hillcrest summer day. In other words, expect to see a lot of cute boys walking around shirtless!
Beside the official daytime street party and the after-sundown party under the Hillcrest sign (it’s extended to 11 pm this year, with DJs Nikno, Dirty Kurty, Will Z, and John Joseph), all the nearby bars and clubs like Urban Mo's, Fiesta Cantina, #1 Fifth Avenue, Babycakes, Busalacci’s and Brass Rail should doing booming business as well.
And at Rich’s there will be an Official CityFest Kick Off Party on the Saturday night before, which will include all four of the after-sundown DJs mentioned above, and an Official CityFest Afterhours on Sunday night beginning at 10 pm.
"So You Think You Can Drag" at Lips
After CityFest, I'll be heading over to Lips for the finals of So You Think You Can Drag, their monthly amateur drag contest.
Hosted by the fabulous Paris Sukomi Max, this “finals” contest will feature only contestants who have come in first- or second-place this year, with over $500 in cash and prizes for the participants and audience members (yes door prizes!) sponsored by Lips, SDPIX, Smirnoff and Captain Morgan. There will be drink specials all night long as well.
The bar opens at 6:30 pm, seating begins at 7 pm, the show at 7:45 pm. Cover is only $5 ($2.50 for industry) plus a $15 food minimum. Call 619-295-7900 for reservations, as this event is sure to sell out.
Wet plus Mankind Fashion Show at Bourbon Street
Tonight (Thursday), join SDPIX and our hostess for the evening Tori Heart for another outrageous night of WET at Bourbon Street. Every week at WET contestants compete for their share of over $600 in cash and prizes, with the top three winners are chosen by audience response.
Tonight is also the night for the Mankind fashion show, this month featuring the styles of Dsquared2 and Tribe.
Plus, there will be half priced Smirnoff cocktails all night long, and dancing and $1 shot specials after the show.
