Jim Winsor's Out & About: Wear red at Gay Days Anaheim this weekend

Yep, it's time once again for us to don our mouse ears and red T-shirts and head up the I-5 to Gay Days Anaheim, the unofficial day to be gay at Disneyland!

This is a fun, fun weekend I look forward to every October; if you've never been, you can check out my photos of previous GDA weekends here. I know many other San Diegans are planning to trek up there as well.

Wonderland Party

The festivities will begin Friday night, Oct. 4, with the Wonderland Party at Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen in Downtown Disney. With DJ Ray Rhodes spinning and a VIP lounge hosted by Momma, there's something for everyone at this mad bash.

The fun goes from 9:30 pm to 1 am. Tickets are $20 at the door, and the proceeds will benefit the Point Foundation.

Gay Day at Disneyland

Saturday, Oct. 5, is the actual Gay Day at Disneyland.

The idea here is to enhance our visibility and demonstrate our numbers by all wearing red shirts, and you can purchase this year's official red T-shirt here. Of course you can always wear your own, but just keep in mind: "We encourage your creativity when selecting a shirt (as long as it's red!). Just please keep in mind that Disneyland is open to the general public and there will be people of all ages present. Thanks!"

Also happening at 7 pm: Drag star Miss Coco Peru “returns with more stories about her life, songs to sing and a show that will basically change lives. Well, maybe that last part is a bit too much, but all she asks of her audience is to pretend that they're at a big group therapy session … and it's her turn to talk. Saturday, Oct. 5 at 7 pm inside Disney's Grand Californian Hotel.” Tickets are $20 at the door.

Kingdom Party

Saturday night will be the centerpiece event of the Gay Days weekend, the Kingdom Party at the House of Blues Anaheim in Downtown Disney. This will be a great party with DJ Kimberly S at the turntables, plus Glee star Alex Newell (Unique) and Disney Diva Susan Egan as featured entertainers.

This party will rage from 9 pm to 1:30 am, and advance tickets are available here.

Gay Day at Disney California Adventure

On Sunday, Oct. 6, things will wind up with another festive park outing, Gay Day at the adjoining Disney California Adventure park. Once again, red T-shirts are the fashionable fashion of the day.

Plunge pool party

Sunday is also the day for Plunge, the official pool party for Gay Days Anaheim, at the Anabella host hotel just across the street from Disney, from noon until 4 pm, with DJ Zach Moos. Individual tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door.

VIP Passes

VIP Gold Passes and Silver Passes are still for sale as of the time I am writing this, but you best hurry as these have been known to run out (especially the Gold ones).
