11 am: New Year's Day Hangover Brunch at Uptown Tavern

Ken Williams’s Birthday Bash at Redwing

But before we even get to New Year’s, there’s a couple big events coming up beforehand.

The first is a birthday party for SDGLN Editor in Chief Ken Williams at Redwing this Friday at 7 pm. It’s a fundraiser for FilmOut, for which Ken serves as a member of its board of directors:

“Ken's guests will get Happy Hour pricing from 7-9 pm and enjoy each other's company out on the back patio. Redwing will have a 'FilmOut San Diego' drink special with a portion of proceeds going back to FilmOut. Jell-O shots will be available for $2 with all proceeds going to FilmOut. Great raffle prizes will be also be available!

In lieu of gifts, Ken hopes his friends will simply come out, celebrate, and support FilmOut in whatever way you can. If you aren't able to attend but would like to make a donation to FilmOut in honor of Ken's birthday, you can do so HERE. Note 'Ken Williams' in the comments.”

Winter White Party at Rich’s

The second pre-NYE event coming up is the annual SDPIX Winter White Party at Rich’s this Saturday. “Celebrate wintertime and the holidays with frosty go-go dancers and the nightclub decked out in beautiful white decor. Customers are encouraged to wear white attire.”

On top of that, I should add that many boys use this event as an opportunity to preview and showcase their preliminary outfits for the coming White Party Palm Springs, the 25th anniversary of which will be coming up on April 25-28, 2014.

Vote for Walter

Speaking of big parties, the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force’s Winter Party Festival scheduled for March 5-10, 2014 in Miami is having a big photo contest promotion on Facebook. Entrants who submit pictures of them making preparations for the Winter Party could win a vacation package for two to the party, based on the number of “likes” each photo gets.

And as it so happens, one of our local San Diego boys is just a whisker away from winning it. Walter Orlando was leading the count until recently, when he just barely slipped into second place. So, it could still go either way … you can view and vote for his impressive self-improvement photo here. Personally, I cannot think of a better person from San Diego to represent and show those Miami boys how it’s done!
