Jim Winsor’s Out & About: Gay Days Anaheim is this weekend

Yep, it's time once again for us to don our mouse ears and red shirts and head up the I-5 to Gay Days Anaheim, the unofficial day to be gay at Disneyland!

This is a fun, fun weekend; if you've never been, you can check out my photos of previous GDA weekends here. I know many other San Diegans are planning to trek up there as well.

Rich’s 23rd Anniversary Party

For those of you not heading up to Disney this Saturday, be advised that Rich’s will be celebrating its 23rd Anniversary that night, with a huge party going to 4 am. The night promises not only music be DJ Nikno and DJ Taj, but also a special live performance by Dev! She’ll be singing her No. 1 hits Bass Down Low and In The Dark.

On top of all that, there will be free champagne and cake from 10 to 11 pm. You can pre-purchase tickets (which get you front-of-the-line and guaranteed entry) here.

Mr, Ms, and Miss Gay Black San Diego Contest at Numbers

This Sunday afternoon Numbers will be playing host to the 2014 Mr, Ms, and Miss Gay Black San Diego Contest. An evening of competition, elegance, talent and entertainment, contestants will be judged in three separate categories: Casual Wear, Evening Wear, and Talent. Proceeds will benefit the programs of the Imperial Court de San Diego.

As a matter of fact, tonight (Thursday) the current Mr Gay Black San Diego, Laur Darell, will be throwing a Step Down Party at Numbers, with a hosted Svedka bar from 10 to 11 pm and an opportunity to meet some of the new 2014 contestants. Cover is free before 11 pm.

This year’s Atlantis Mexican Cruise

If San Diego seems a bit less festive next week, that probably because so many of our gay nightlife’s leading bon vivants, including Ed Ruegg, Jim Honeycutt, Bryan Hill, David Cope, David Van Whittemore, Michael Carpenter, Brooks Crockett, Darius Alexander, Robert Wiggins, Anthony Viruet, Dustin Trevor, Jon Heil and Peter Trihas, among others, are heading out to sea this Sunday on the annual Atlantis Mexican Cruise. This year, the cruise will be sailing out of Los Angeles on a Princess ship, bound for Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo on an eight-day journey.

And while I won’t be on the cruise this year (I’m still recovering from the Atlantis Med cruise I went on a couple months ago), I want to wish all the boys who are going a safe and happy voyage!
