(Editor's note: "Tantrums and Tiaras: Battle of the Bar Queens 2016" returns on Sunday, Feb. 21 at Observatory North Park. The show is an over-the-top drag competition where representatives from some of the community’s bars with little or no drag experience compete for the crown. The event benefits the programs of The San Diego LGBT Community Center. Leading up to the event, we will profile the five contestants, but you'll have to buy tickets and go the show to find out their drag name and see them in full make-up! More information and tickets can be purchased HERE. View the other contestants we've profiled this year HERE.)
Contestant Name: Dash Le
Bar Representing: Baja Betty's
First time in drag?
I have been painted and girlied up a couple of times for the Drive By Drag shows at Baja Betty's, but this will be the first time I experience full on, fabulous, over the top drag! I'm grateful that my drag mother, "Ava Taylor" (Brad Crespo), is designing and creating my character's mug.
Tell us a bit more about yourself.
Not much to know! I got out, drink with my friends, and love to go to the beach to soak up some sun. I'm very adventurous and energetic. I would consider myself a foodie! I always want to go somewhere I haven't gone before! Which is pretty much everywhere. I'm a server at Baja Betty's, and do I love it!!
What are you most excited about?
I'm excited to represent Baja Betty's and support our community. After I saw Tantrums And Tiaras last year, I decided that I had to be in the show; here we are, one year later. I do have to admit that I'm looking forward to wear all of the amazing costumes and wigs!
What makes you most nervous about competing?
I'm not really nervous. I'm just going to imagine I'm looking at 700 of my friends who are helping to raise lots of money while watching me prance around in 5.5" heels! Um, maybe I'm a little bit nervous about the shoes... I'll just be picturing everyone in their underwear.
Why are YOU going to win Tantrums & Tiaras?
I will win because I'm going to have fun, entertain the crowd and bring my character to life! Not only that but I don't lack humor, and these bitches are in for a treat. If I don't win, I'll have to join those Cockettes next year (just kidding, girls) instead of retiring my title as Miss Tantrums and Tiaras 2016!
You don't want to miss T&T 2016 on Sunday, February 20! You will be in for lots of sequins, sass and surprises. What better way to support our community than by watching amateur drag queens go after one another LIVE on stage?! I really hope to see everyone there, and meet you!
