The star was ruined beyond recognition, vandal not remorseful.
A vandal took a sledgehammer and pickax to presidential hopeful Donald Trump’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star in Hollywood, CA. early Wednesday morning.
The damage is so severe that it remains beyond recognition.
Hollywood Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Leron Gubler says that the star will be replaced within a few days and the damaged site will be covered until its replacement.
"When people are unhappy with one of our honorees, we would hope that they would project their anger in more positive ways than to vandalize a California state landmark," Gubler said. "Our democracy is based on respect for the law. People can make a difference by voting and not destroying public property."
The admitted vandal, James Otis, told Deadline that he disguised himself as a construction worker and planned to dislodge the star and auction it off to raise money for the women who accused Trump of sexually assaulting them on his show “The Apprentice.”
Police have yet to make an arrest as Otis' face is obscured in the video and he had left the scene by 6 am Wednesday morning.
Los Angeles Police Department officer Norma Eisenman said, "We're reviewing surveillance footage from local businesses and when the case is completed, it will be submitted to the district attorney for filing of a felony vandalism charge."
This isn't the first time the monument has been vandalized during this election cycle, but it is the most severe.
