Some people watching Lady Gaga’s explosive half-time show were less concerned with her perceived political message as they were about her body.
Criticizing the singer about her weight seemed to be a trending topic on social media, but Mother Monster was quick to respond in her usual way.
“I heard my body is a topic of conversation so I wanted to say, I’m proud of my body and you should be proud of yours too,” she wrote on Instagram. “No matter who you are or what you do.”
Critics who watched her performance accused the singer of being “fat” after she wore a costume that exposed her midriff.
Gaga encouraged people to not be hindered by what others think.
“Be you, and be relentlessly you,” she wrote. “That’s the stuff of champions.”
Her fans rallied together in support of her words, many expressing how celebrities, especially women are regularly ridiculed for their physical appearance.
“Gaga looked amazing and her performance was on point. and ppl are body shaming her. women can never win can they??” – @projectFem4All – Twitter
Despite the trolling comments, Gaga is gearing up for an exciting year.
She just announced her “Joanne” world tour starting in August of this year.
And she will also appear on the Ru Paul’s Drag Race season 9 opener on Logo in March.
