The San Diego Women's Chorus will also perform alongside the pop star.
[Editor's note: SDGLN recently found out that the San Diego Women's Chorus will also join Demi Lovato onstage during her concert. We have updated this article with a quote from Artistic Director Kathleen Hansen.]
The San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus is joining singer Demi Lovato on Monday, February 26 at Viejas Arena. The chorus will sing with the Grammy-nominated star while she belts out her hits “Sorry Not Sorry” and “Tell Me You Love Me.”
Executive Director of the SDGMC, Bob Lehman says he is proud and excited to be asked to join Lovato, “Not only do we love her music, but we love that she is an outspoken supporter of the LGBT community.”
Unfortunately, not all members of the chorus will join Miss Lovato which left Lehman in a difficult predicament.
“The toughest part of being asked to sing with Demi Lovato was picking just 20 singers to join her onstage,” he said. “Everybody wanted to sing with her. Our Chorus alone could have filled the stage!”
Lovato is a dedicated ally to the LGBT community. She recently visited the Ellen DeGeneres show joined by the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles.
GLAAD gave the 25-year-old pop star the Vanguard Award in 2016 which recognizes people in the entertainment industry who support LGBT rights.
“Many of our singers are big Demi Lovato fans with her messages of empowerment and acceptance," Lehman explains. "Her music is brave and strong just like we all want to be.”
The San Diego Women's Chorus (SDWC) will add their voices to this performance as well. Artistic Director Kathleen Hansen explains how the SDWC will contribute to the concert.
"SDWC is known for our mission to encourage women's creativity, celebrate diversity and inspire social action. We are thrilled and honored to be joining Ms. Lovato - a strong female artist and activist- on the San Diego stop of her world tour," Hansen said in a statement.
Demi Lovato is currently on tour with DJ Khaled and will appear with the San Diego Gay Men's Chorus on Monday, February 26 at the Viejas Arena at Aztec Bowl San Diego State.
