The actor found a question about his sexuality "intrusive."
Lee Pace (Pushing Daisies) is a celebrity whose talent spans across many mediums, from film and television to the Broadway stage. He is currently rehearsing his role in a revival of Angels in America.
This week the 38-year-old actor was talking to W Magazine and agreed that gay actors should play gay roles, but when reporter Brian Moylan asked about Pace's own sexuality, he became a little flustered:
“I’ve dated men. I’ve dated women,” Pace explained. “I don’t know why anyone would care. I’m an actor and I play roles. To be honest, I don’t know what to say—I find your question intrusive.”
Moylan tweeted about the awkward conversation himself, "I interviewed Lee Pace about being in Angels in America and asked if he was gay and...it did not go as planned."
Pace was reportedly outed by Sir Ian McKellen in 2012. McKellen was promoting his film "The Hobbit" and gave a list of gay actors working alongside him, one of which was Pace.
This latest interview may not have been Pace's official public coming out, but it seems to be a lot closer to it than what he's said in the past.
“Who cares about people’s personal lives?” he told BuzzFeed in 2014. “I mean, honestly. How are you then able to disappear into a role? Trust me, if I had something interesting to say about myself, I would.”
