‘Anything’ takes top prizes at FilmOut’s San Diego LGBT Film Festival 2018

This year was the 20th Anniversary of the San Diego LGBT Film Festival and some people thought it was the best one ever. There were some highly anticipated premieres such as Andrew Fleming’s “Ideal Home,” Paul Detwiler’s “San Diego’s Bar History,” and the horror short “The Quiet Room” from Sam Wineman.

There was also some controversy surrounding this year’s festival entry “Anything” starring Matt Bomer as a trans sex worker who finds love living in a Los Angeles duplex. Despite the backlash, the film took home a whopping seven festival awards including Best Feature, John Carroll Lynch as Best Actor, and Timothy McNeil as Best Director.

Horror short “The Quiet Room” took home two awards; first for Best Overall Short Film, and then Jamal Douglas for Outstanding Emerging Talent.

Saturday Night Live vet Molly Shannon received Best Actress for her work in “Wild Nights With Emily,” and Best Ensemble going to Allan Brocka & Jeffrey Johns for “Still Waiting in the Wings.”
