Up-and-coming hip hop artist Kevin Fret was shot and killed on Thursday in Santurce, San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The 24-year-old prided himself as being the first openly gay trap (a form of hip hop) artist. Fret was shot on his motorcycle early in the morning and was taken to Medical Center of Río Piedras where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities are currently investigating the details of his death.

New Now Next reports that Fret's manager Eduardo Rodriguez talked about the musician's death on Remezcla: “Kevin was an artistic soul, a dreamer with a big heart.”

He added: “His passion was music, and he still had a lot left to do. This violence should stop. There are no words to describe our emotions and the pain that it causes us to know that a person with so many dreams has to go.”

Those dreams included leading the way to help other LGBT musicians become successful.

Fret had a large social media presence, often posting videos for fans to show off his new look or discuss things going on in his life.

He was also in the news back in 2018 when he got into an altercation with another man in Miami after he says the man attacked because of his sexuality.

His first single "Soy Asi" ("I'm Like This") was released in the spring of 2018.
