The story will focus on Sandy and Danny's time before meeting in high school.
Over 40 years after "Grease" premiered in theaters and electrified audiences, Paramount is working on a prequel to the iconic movie.
The movie will be titled "Summer Loving," and will tell the story of Danny and Sandy before their meet-cute at Rydell High.
John August of "Big Fish" is penning the script according to the Hollywood Reporter which CNN confirmed.
August is hoping for some summer love himself; one of his projects this year is Disney's live-action take on "Aladdin."
He is also behind Guillermo del Toro's "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" slated to be released this fall.
Since the project is only in its development stages, "Summer Loving" may not make it to production, but the brand is a strong one which continues to entertain generations nearly five decades after it premiered on stage.
There was a lesser recognized sequel aptly named "Grease 2," which starred Michelle Pheiffer, but it never reached the global success of its predecessor.
Fox updated some of the songs for its live reboot of "Grease" in 2016 which became one of its more successful live musicals of the ones they have produced.
