Produced through special arrangement with Music Theatre International
"Try To Remember" a time when this romantic charmer wasn't enchanting audiences around the world. The Fantasticks is the longest-running musical in the world and with good reason: at the heart of its breathtaking poetry and subtle theatrical sophistication is a purity and simplicity that transcends cultural barriers. The result is a timeless fable of love that manages to be nostalgic and universal at the same time.
The Point Loma Playhouse continues its 2018-2019 season with The Fantasticks by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt. The Fantasticks had its premiere opening in 1960, remained on stage through 2006 and continues to enchant audiences the world over. Now, one of the world's longest-running musicals is coming to the Point Loma Playhouse.
This musical is filled with enchanting music and lyrics. The plot is a simple one of love and happiness that dresses the stage with a magical look of despair and hope. The story culminates with a moment of realization that while life may seem fancy-free, there may be horrors just around the bend and life may not be as bright as one hopes. This sweet and simple musical fable is also strangely captivating with a lover's tale told through the beauty and romance of a magical moon contrasted with the heat from a dastardly blazing sun. Telling an allegorical story, loosely based on the play, The Romancers (Les Romanesques, by Edmond Rostand, The Fantasticks concerns two neighboring fathers who trick their children into falling in love; or do they? The show features a narrator, who is also a strolling crooner, and a strong ensemble cast that includes a Shakespearean actor and Indian sidekick, pirates, ghouls, and a beloved mute.
The Fantasticks is directed by Jerry Pilato, with musical direction by Nina Gilbert, special choreography designed by George Bailey, set and lighting designed by Jay Maloney. The cast includes: Kaivan Ameen, Heather Armstrong, Sky Molina, Brian Evans, Tom Fitzpatrick, Richard Rivera, Ryan Nebreja and Madeline Tamlove.
This Point Loma Playhouse production is running for three short weeks in Point Loma. The Fantasticks takes to the stage at Point Loma Playhouse located at 3035 Talbot Street 92106, in the historic Point Loma Assembly.
