"Judy" trailer shows a transformed Zellweger as the Hollywood gay icon

The professional life of Judy Garland is explored in Rupert Goold's 2019 biopic titled simply "Judy." The trailer for the picture starring Renee Zellweger dropped today, the movie is scheduled to open nationwide on September 27, 2019.

The film follows Garland a year before her accidental overdose and death as she navigates through life in London performing in a series of sold-out concerts at the Talk of the Town nightclub. 

Zellweger has been out of the public spotlight and off the red carpet for almost three years, her last performance was that of familiar character Bridget Jones in the second sequel to that successful franchise titled "Bridget Jones's Baby."

According to Entertainment Weekly, Zellweger has been busy though studying up on Judy Garland from her mannerisms to her vocal style. 

“It was such a joy learning about the magnificence of this person,” she said. “I always admired her. She was so quick and so funny. She could hit the ball back with the best of them.”

"Judy" costars Finn Wittrock as Mickey Deans (Garland’s fifth husband), Michael Gambon, Bernard Delfton and Rufus Sewell. 

Gemma-Leah Devereux (The Tudors) plays Garland's daughter Liza Minnelli.
