This newly constructed building has sat dormant for a few years.
Hillcrest just got a little more mouthwatering as Ramen Ryoma has opened up on University Avenue next to Better Buzz Coffee Roasters. The Japanese noodle house is the brainchild of owner Yoshinari Ichise who also operates similar eateries in Las Vegas.
Ryoma's claim to fame is their Rustic Temomi (hand-massaged) ramen noodles, which they describe as an "uneven wavy noodle (which) has a very unique texture due to the careful and delicate attention put into its aging process, with every bite leaving our customers satisfied. Our noodles are made from a special wheat flour full of rich flavors, and is made to last long in the broth without getting soggy."
That broth is also a staple of the restaurant made by, "boiling premium black pork bones for nearly half a day."
Ramen Ryoma also has locations in Kearny Mesa and Pacific Beach.
The Hillcrest location at 815 University Ave takes over the newly constructed 2,800-square-foot glass facade building which has stood empty for a few years.
The first floor is where the ramen bar is located and the upstairs is designated for the sushi and beer bar, with 20 craft beers on tap.
According to the San Diego Eater, "The menu also features sashimi, nigiri sushi, specialty sushi rolls, and fusion dishes like truffle scallop and uni and seared tuna with red onion and garlic chips."
Open daily for lunch and dinner, Ramen Ryoma stays open late until 2 am on Fridays and Saturdays.
