Gotham gets a reason to have a Pride festival.
DC Comics has just thrust open the closet door and has an all-new LGBT heroine in Batwoman.
Orange is the New Black alum Ruby Rose portrays the mysterious crime fighter in the CW series Batwoman. Her arc became a historic one in Sunday's episode.
The episode titled “How Queer Everything Is Today!” Batwoman struggles with revealing her lesbian sexual identity until she meets a queer youth who herself denies being gay.
Kara Danvers, aka Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) delivers the scoop via an interview with Batwoman published in Gotham's own CatCo magazine.
“For me, it was so important for this character to stand in her truth,” series showrunner Caroline Dries told Entertainment Weekly. “The girl underneath the costume is so comfortable with who she is and so comfortable with being truthful, and she never really has been in the closet.”
Fans may have seen this coming since it was reported that Rose, who identifies as gender-fluid, would take on the role of a gay superhero this past October.
