The basketball star player Maya Moore (33) who won four WNBA championships officially announced her retirement from the sports industry to help free an innocent man from prison.

The WNBA disclosed the news through its official Twitter handle as Maya Moore has officially announced her retirement from the WNBA. And wrote Thank you for everything you have done for the league and the game of basketball as a whole along with her photos. 

Maya last played in 2018 and initially announced her retirement in 2019 to focus more on her family. And she announced her decision that she would not return to the WNBA in 2020. She paid attention to criminal justice reform.

Maya Moore and Jonathan Iron married in 2020 after Jonathan was freed from prison. Both of them discussed their new book Love and Justice: A Story of Triumph on Two Different Courts on Good Morning America.

Maya said their story has happened over so many years-reading it all together was extremely overwhelming.  

Jonathan said the process was very traumatic. He interacted with a counselor and found the more he read it the more it helped him to get through.

Now Jonathan realized he lost a lot. He chooses every day to live gratefully. He could still be in prison but now he is freed from a 23 and half years of dark life. He wants to live in that and focus on what he has now.

He married a woman who saved his life and they have a son together. Now he started a beautiful life, which was waiting for him after his long prison life. 

Jonathan said things about Maya that he learn while writing the book together. She is a sweet loving and nurturing person and his best friend. She is in the moment and shows up and is present. 

Maya described her decision to retire from her career by saying she thinks it is time to put a close to the pro basketball life. She walked away four seasons ago, but she wanted to officially retire. This is such a sweet time for them and their beautiful family. 

She wants to continue to be present at home always.
