Mayor Houlihan and Council Member Barth Join Effort to Defeat Bilbray
(SOLANA BEACH) - Dave Roberts, Democratic candidate for the 50th Congressional District, announced yesterday that he earned the coveted endorsements of Encinitas Mayor Maggie Houlihan and Encinitas City Council Member Teresa Barth.
Maggie Houlihan serves as mayor of Encinitas, and had been a member of the Encinitas City Council for the previous nine years. Prior to her service in city government, Houlihan worked for 27 years at UCSD. Teresa Barth is currently in her first term on the Encinitas City Council, and is an active community leader from Cardiff-by-the-Sea.
“I am honored to have Mayor Houlihan and Council Member Barth’s endorsements,” said Dave Roberts. “With all their years of public service, Mayor Houlihan and Council Member Barth understand the needs of the people in our region. They know how important it is for communities throughout the 50th Congressional District to have a committed leader with a proven track record of results representing our interests in Washington, D.C.”
“I’ve had the privilege of working with Dave during his tenure on the Solana Beach City Council and the San Elijo Joint Power Authority, and have been impressed with his integrity and common sense approach to solving problems that affect communities all across our area,” Mayor Houlihan said. “Dave’s leadership in environmental causes, his experience in health care and as a local public official, as well as his military background have prepared him well to represent us in Washington. I am honored to endorse him today and to work to help him bring San Diego values to Washington.”
“I am so proud to endorse a local, regional and national leader like Dave Roberts,” Council Member Barth said. “I have worked with Dave as part of the SANDAG Public Safety committee, and on countless issues over the years as they affect Encinitas and North County, and I am consistently impressed by his ability to bring people together and get results. Like me, Dave has been an active volunteer in community and civic organizations all across the region and I know he has a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities that exist in North County.”
Dave Roberts, 48, is a two-term councilman and former Mayor, small businessman, and nationally recognized health policy advisor who has been working hard for his neighbors in San Diego County for many years. Roberts recently received a two-year federal appointment to serve on the national Advisory Panel for Medicare Education in the Obama Administration. In addition, he is a graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School Executive Leadership Institute, University of Virginia's Sorensen Institute of Political Leadership, as well as the U.S. Air Forces' Air Command and Staff College and Squadron Officer School.
