VIDEO: Gunn High School sings away hate group

PALO ALTO -- When the Kansas-based hate group known as the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) announced that they would picket Bay Area schools and Jewish institutions, students at Gunn High School decided they could not sit by quietly.

The students, along with members of the Palo Alto community, rallied on campus to sing songs of love and tolerance and to show the hatemongers that Gunn High School celebrities the beautify of diversity.

Protesters from the anti-gay, anti-Semitic WBC, which is headed by Fred Phelps, frequently picket at various venues across the country, particularly at military funerals where they carry colorful signs with hateful messages such as “Thank God for Dead Soldiers,” “God Hates Fags” and “God Hates America.”

Westboro last protested in San Diego on Oct. 16, 2009, where counter-protesters outnumbered the group, 300 to 7.
