VIDEO: Will Proposition 8 get overturned? Find out first

SAN FRANCISCO -- A huge milestone in the fight for marriage equality is imminent. District Judge Vaughn Walker will soon render his historic decision on Proposition 8.

By signing up for text and email updates from American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER), you will be one of the first to know when this historic decision is made and what you can do to help.

The San Diego LGBT community will come together for a march and town hall meeting on the evening the court's decision is handed down -- to celebrate or mourn, depending on the outcome. Gather at Sixth and University at 6 p.m., march to The Center at 6:30 p.m., and stay for the Town Hall gathering at 7 p.m. For more information, visit the Prop 8 on Trial – Day of Decision Facebook page.

AFER believes that advisory board members John Podesta and Robert Levy summed it up perfectly in a recent op-ed in the Washington Post, “Our history will soon be written by young people who are seizing the reins from the baby boomers. They seem prepared to reject laws that serve no purpose other than to deny two committed and loving individuals the right to join in a mutually reinforcing marital relationship.”

We couldn’t agree more. Sign up and be part of this historic moment.

The American Foundation for Equal Rights is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and advancing equal rights for every American. The foundation’s case, known as Perry v. Schwarzenegger, went to trial on January 11, 2010. The Foundation has assembled a legal team led by Theodore Olson and David Boies to demonstrate that Proposition 8 violates the U.S. Constitution by denying millions of people equal protection under the law.
