NEW YORK -- Rarely has a beauty pageant contestant expressed herself as eloquently as the newly crowned Miss New York, Claire Buffie.
Unlike the former Miss California Carrie Prejean, Buffie is the first Miss America hopeful in the pageant's history to run on a gay rights platform.
In the interview below with MSNBC she explains that her sister is a lesbian and she believes that her sister should have the same rights that she does. Buffie is also an executive member of New York's PFLAG chapter.
A new Miss America will be crowned in Las Vegas on Jan. 15, 2011.
