NEW YORK – Billionaire developer Donald Trump, who has stuck his toe into the pool of potential Republican presidential candidates, has turned his back on the LGBT community by coming out against gay marriage.
Trump declared his positions on social issues while appearing on Fox News with Greta Van Susteren.
“New York is a place with lots of gays, and I think it’s great. But I’m not in favor of gay marriage,” Trump said in the interview that aired late Monday.
Trump also said he doesn’t support a woman’s right to choice on abortion.
The billionaire known for his comb-over hairdo defended Miss USA contestant Carrie Prejean in 2009 when she got into hot water for being adamantly against gay marriage. Trump owns the Miss USA brand.
Ironically, Trump spoke at CPAC last week as the guest of GOProud, the controversial Republican gay group. GOProud mounted a write-in campaign for Trump in CPAC’s presidential straw poll, but it was all fizzle and no spark. Trump scored less than 1% of the ballots.
