Josh Flagg, who came out on Bravo this year, to sign books May 27 in Hillcrest

SAN DIEGO – Josh Flagg, the celebrity real estate agent from Beverly Hills, will be in San Diego this week to sign copies of his new book, “Million Dollar Agent: Brokering The Dream.”

A star of Bravo’s popular reality show “Million Dollar Listing,” Flagg will make an appearance at Obelisk Shoppe in Hillcrest on Friday, May 27, scheduled to start at 7 pm.

Flagg came out on an episode of “Million Dollar Listing” that aired in mid-March, but days earlier he publicly acknowledged that he was gay in an exclusive interview with San Diego Gay & Lesbian News that was published on March 18. That exclusive interview went viral on the Internet, and today ranks as the No. 1-read story in SDGLN history, according to Google Analytics.

In the interview, Flagg said he figured out he was gay when he was 12 or 13. His co-star Madison Hildebrand came out on national television before Flagg did, but Flagg told SDGLN that he was privately out long before Hildebrand.

“Madison did not beat me to the punch. Madison just decided to come out on national television before I did, but as far as I know, I was out to the people I wanted to be out to well before Madison was. At the rate we are going, we might have to change the title of the show to ‘Two Homos and the Straight Dude,’” Flagg said. Josh Altman, the other star on the show, is the straight guy.

In the exclusive interview, Flagg also opened up about his boyfriend, Colton Thorn, who until the “coming out” episode was a secret to “Million Dollar Listing” fans.

“Colton is the constant in my life,” Flagg said. “We work very well together. He is a design associate for a very prominent international interior designer and he is very talented. We share many interests such as design and traveling the world. I do love him very much. We have a very unique, unconventional and different relationship, but it is what works for us and who is to say what is conventional?”

In his memoir, Flagg talks about his boyfriend in a chapter titled “Colton.” Here is are two excerpts:

“I have only loved two boys and one of them didn’t even like me. Well, I should say that the first boy was an infatuation. I could not have him, and it made me want him more. The second boy is my boyfriend, life partner, husband, whatever you want to call it. If you asked me what my favorite thing about Colton is, it is that he loves me and he loves me unconditionally.” …

“I always tell Colton, ‘I want to die one minute before you.’ Colton is my boyfriend, best friend, husband, life partner, whatever you want to call it. If you asked me my favorite thing about Colton it would definitely be the way that he loves me. He is the only person that knows me inside and out, and has accepted all of my positive and negative qualities. From the moment I met Colton I knew I had to spend the rest of my life with him. The only way I can really describe it is that he completes me.”

The memoir covers the 25 years that Flagg has been alive, so there are juicy recollections of growing up in Beverly Hills, feeling a bit of a misfit because he didn’t quite fit in with the “in” crowd. He also lovingly writes about his maternal and paternal grandparents, who were prominent members of the Los Angeles Jewish community. And as fans of the Bravo reality series know, Flagg has a special and incredible bond with his paternal grandmother Edith Flagg, and they even live across the street from each other in condo buildings on Avenue of the Stars in Century City.

Flagg’s final chapter, “How to be a Successful Agent, Josh Flagg Style,” is laden with advice for young professionals who want to follow in his footsteps and make it big time in real estate.

“Million Dollar Agent: Brokering the Dream” is never going to win a prize for writing, but it provides a fascinating glimpse into the life of the quirky real estate agent to the stars.
