SAN DIEGO -- The Hillcrest Town Council (HTC) will be discussing a topic that is important to almost everyone at its monthly meeting to be held tonight at 6:30 pm: streets.
The group invites all area renters and homeowners to the meeting, which will include a presentation from a representative of UCSD Medical Center, who will speak about improving traffic patterns on the neighborhood streets around the busy Hillcrest hospital.
Following UCSD's presentation, a seven-minute video spotlighting the 1981 study by Donald Appelyard called "Livable Streets" will be shown. Appleyard studied how people experience streets with different traffic volumes.
After all of the "street talk," HTC Steering Committee member Dave McCulloch will give a presentation on the organization's new website, and then an open discussion on "What brings you to HTC?" will follow.
The organization is also in the process of conducting two community surveys that it hopes residents will take online. The surveys on community health and a greener Hillcrest will help HTC better understand the wants and needs of Hillcrest residents.
Tonight's meeting will be held at the Joyce Beers Community Center in the Uptown District Shopping Center.
