SAN DIEGO -- More than 150,000 people are expected to gather on the streets of Hillcrest today for the 37th annual San Diego LGBT Pride Parade, celebrating "Pride Around the World."
For those who are not able to join the crowds along University and Sixth avenues, San Diego Gay & Lesbian News (SDGLN) and SD PIX will bring the parade to computer screens around the world as it broadcasts the parade online.
Hale Media, publisher of SDGLN and SD PIX, has teamed with US Relay to broadcast the parade online from a camera mounted to the roof of Rich's nightclub on University Avenue, which is along the parade route.
Viewers will be able to log on to SDGLN.com to watch the parade live, which begins at 11 am Saturday, July 16. Following the parade, the cameras will continue to broadcast the excitement that will fill the streets of Hillcrest with changing views all weekend long.
More than 150 contingents are expected to participate in today's parade, including school groups, local businesses, elected officials, community organizations and dancing groups.
Local radio station Magic 92.5 will be broadcasting the parade live from the parking lot of Gossip Grill restaurant, and other radio stations such as La Mejor 99.3, Diego 91.7, Jack FM, and Z90 will also participate along the parade route.
San Diego Pride also introduced mobile.sdpride.org this year which provides participants with up to the minute information on their cell phone or hand-held device about the parade and two-day festival that follows it.
SDGLN Publisher Johnathan Hale said he is pleased that people with Internet access anywhere in the world will be able to view San Diego Pride weekend live via their computers.
