SAN DIEGO -- Assemblymember Toni Atkins will be the featured guest at tonight's Hillcrest Town Council (HTC) meeting, starting at 6:30 pm at the Joyce Beers Community Center.
The former San Diego city councilmember, who represented District 3, will speak to the group about local issues and answer questions from the audience.
Other agenda items include updates from HTC's various subcommittees, including Development, Neighborhood Improvement, and Parking. Members of these subcommittees work on special neighborhood improvement projects and report back to the full council.
The group will also provide an update on the Interim Height Ordinance and seek input on community issues to tackle in 2012.
The litter committee of HTC is also looking for community members to participate in the next neighborhood cleanup, happening Saturday, Nov. 12, from 9 am to noon. Members of the Hillcrest Clean TEAM will meet at Park Blvd. south of University Ave. to break up into work teams. Volunteers will then spend the morning sweeping and picking litter up from the sidewalks.
Organizers say that all volunteers will receive a free orange "Clean TEAM" T-shirt.
HTC, which meets monthly, was founded in January 2007 and works to provide a voice and enhance the quality of life for Hillcrest residents, while working on projects and actions to benefit the neighborhood.
The meeting is open to the everyone, and includes a public comment section.
The Joyce Beers Community Center is located in the Uptown District Shopping Center on Cleveland Ave. in Hillcrest.
