"Lincoln" lands 12 Oscar nominations to lead the pack

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. – “Lincoln,” director Steven Spielberg’s epic movie about the President who saved the Union during the Civil War, is the top leader in Oscar nominations for the 85th annual Academy Awards.

“Lincoln” is nominated for a total of 12 Oscars, including some of the biggest prizes: Best Picture, Best Director (Steven Spielberg), Best Actor (Daniel Day-Lewis), Best Supporting Actor (Tommy Lee Jones) and Best Supporting Actress (Sally Field).

Openly gay Tony Kushner was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay for "Lincoln," which also got nods for Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Music (Original Score), Best Production Design and Best Sound Mixing.

"Life Of Pi" is close behind with 11 nominations, followed by "Les Miserables" and "Silver Linings Playbood" with eight nods, and "Argo" with seven.

"How To Survive A Plague," the powerful documentary about the history of AIDS, got an Oscar nomination.

The Oscars will be presented on Sunday, Feb. 24, on ABC TV.
