Flags on City of San Diego buildings to fly at half-staff to honor massacre victims

SAN DIEGO -- Interim Mayor Todd Gloria today ordered flags at all City of San Diego facilities to be flown at half-staff to honor the victims of the Washington Navy Yard shooting on Monday.

At least 12 people were killed on Monday in a mass shooting at the secure military facility, and the gunman was shot dead. Another 14 people were injured in the rampage.

“Innocent lives of public servants were lost yesterday, and San Diegans offer our respect, thoughts, and prayers to the families and friends of the victims,” Gloria said.

In conformance with President Barack Obama’s proclamation for all federal facilities, Gloria has asked the City flags be lowered until sunset on Friday, Sept. 20.

The Hillcrest Business Association, which maintains the Hillcrest Pride Flag, has also lowered that flag to half-staff.
