Polls close at 8 tonight for San Diego's special mayoral election

SAN DIEGO -- Today is election day in San Diego with voters heading to the polls to select the city's next mayor.

Following the resignation of scandal-ridden Mayor Bob Filner, 11 candidates have placed their name on the ballot to replace him, including the four who are considered front-runners: Mike Aguirre, David Alvarez, Kevin Faulconer and Nathan Fletcher.

Polls opened at 7 am this morning and will remain open until 8 pm. Registered voters who aren't sure where their poll site is can find out HERE.

Voters may also head to the Registrar of Voters Office, located at 5201 Ruffin Ct., to cast their vote or drop off a mail ballot that hasn't been returned yet.

No other races or issues are on the ballot for this special city-wide election, voters will only select their choice for mayor.
