Texas: Man arrested in murder of transgender woman

TYLER, Texas -- Tyler police have issued an arrest warrant for the Jan. 26 shooting death of a transgender woman.

Carlton Ray Champion Jr., 21, was served the warrant for murder Monday while being held in the Gregg County Jail on a probation violation.

Champion, who is listed by Tyler police as a Longview man gave a Tyler address when he was booked into the jail. He was attending Texas College in Tyler.

Champion is charged in the death of Tyrone Lee Underwood, 24, whom police said Champion was briefly involved with in a romantic relationship.
