SDGLN has learned that the famous downstairs courtyard bar, The Hole will be closing for good on Sunday, July 5.
The owners have sent out a letter which states their lease is up and after 17 years, the landlord of the property has no interest in extending it to them any longer.
The owners were so in love with the location, and their clients that they tolerated rent hikes and questionable tenants next door.
According to a statement from The Hole owners, “We even endured the past year of the landlord renting to an illegal pot shop next door and endured all the drama that came with that.”
The statement also says their final day of business will be July 5, and they are planning a big beer bust; all are welcome. The landlords have told them to be out on July 6.
The owners say they are currently looking for a new location. They realize that it shouldn’t be a “watered down” version and are open to any and all suggestions.
“We are very upset that we are being forced out and deeply sadden[sic] over the loss of this location for THE HOLE. We have made some great friendships that we sincerely hope to continue with on into the future. Our regulars are as devastated as we are over our closing,” the owners said in the letter.
They add, "Thanks for you[sic] patronage and support over the years, Steve, Debi and THE HOLE crew!!!"
